Magic is happening again

As most of you will know, my writing had to take a bit of a back seat due to some turbulence in my private life. I have recently had an operation, but am healing nicely. My mother-in-law is out of hospital and recovering well. Unfortunately, my father-in-law passed away after being in ICU for nine weeks. All in all, it has been a very trying time and our family is slowly learning to live with the new situation.

So, after barely writing at all during those trying weeks, I can now say that the magic is happening again. The words are flowing again; and faster than ever. Chapters 1 to 13 of Forbidden Elemental are already with my Beta readers, while I am finishing off the last few chapters.

I plan on selling Forbidden Elemental at Comic-Con happening middle of September, which means that I need to get the manuscript to my editor as soon as possible. (She is probably pulling out her hair as she reads this.)

Unfortunately, though, for those of you who have been hoping to get your copy of Forbidden Elemental at the Medieval Fayre on the 1st of September... there simply isn't enough time to get it edited and printed by then.

However, I won't leave you hanging without anything. Seek me out at my stall on the day and I will give you an exclusive, printed copy of the prologue, including brand new bookmarks and merchandise. Simply tell me the secret word to qualify.

Secret word: Fire Dragon

Featured Author - Selah J Tay-Song

About the author

Selah J Tay-Song is living proof that if you persevere, you'll catch your dreams. She decided to be an author at the age of six. Today she is the author of the Dreams of QaiMaj series, an epic fantasy series described as magical, poetic and engrossing. When she's not writing, she's stalking the urban river otters that live less than a mile from her home in the Pacific Northwest.

About the book

Fire magic destroyed the ice kingdom. But it didn’t kill her. Now only she can save what remains of her people . . . Princess Stasia is the first Dreamer born in centuries in the underground ice kingdom of Iskalon. But no one believes her when she talks of a land of plenty and safety beyond the caves. They believe only the ancient legends that tell of a devastated, dangerous land harboring a terrible threat, not the perfect haven for a kingdom raided by powerful fire warriors. Determined to prove everyone wrong, she disobeys her father, outruns the infuriatingly handsome captain of her guard, and ventures into the dangerous tunnels of the enemy to seek the place foretold in her Dreams. But Stasia isn’t the only one receiving visions. The half-mad king of the fire kingdom sees conquest in the flames and escalates the centuries-old conflict to full-scale war, determined to burn Iskalon to the ground for good. When she is captured in the heat of battle, Stasia takes the fire inside of her to protect her family’s secrets in death. Instead, something astonishing happens: she survives the inferno. A new magic begins to grow inside her, the power of the enemy: Fire. After the fall of Iskalon, Stasia must piece together the remnants of her kingdom, protect her people from the fire warriors still hunting them in exile, and learn how to control her dangerous fire magic. Through all this, she continues to Dream of the land of legend, one she must find if her people are to survive. Will her discovery save Iskalon—or will the legendary threat destroy her people entirely? If you like the vivid cast of Assassin’s Apprentice, the detailed worldbuilding of The Way of Kings, and the gritty realism of Game of Thrones, you’ll love the Dreams of QaiMaj epic fantasy series! Buy Dream of a Vast Blue Cavern and enter a world of legend and prophecy, love and war, loyal friendships and cold betrayals, where a mad king wreaks havoc, and salvation might just be worse than destruction.

New Release - Footprints on the Heart

I'm really proud to tell you about this new release today as it's none other than one of my very own #AuthorBesties Jo-Anne Joseph and her poetry anthology Footprints on the Heart, which is already an Amazon #1 New Release!

Well done, Jo-Anne!

Footprints on the Heart: A Remembrance Anthology is a collection of Poetry and Prose by bereaved parents and families from different parts of the world who have been inspired and profoundly moved by the love and loss of their babies, which has inspired their moving and heartfelt words. They speak of the ugliness, the truth and the depth of a grief so unfathomable, and the reality of a loss no parent should have to endure.

Comic-Con Africa 14 - 16 September 2018

This is, literally, the event we have been waiting for all year. Star-studded with international guests, you cannot afford to miss this one. Preparations have been frantic; from printing t-shirts, bookmarks, bookplates, and making swag, to designing our stalls, and, of course, trying feverishly to finish that one book (yes, you know which one I am talking about).

Now, there's lots for me to do, so I'll get right back to it and you'll hear from me again next month and I'll give you an update on my progress. Once the pressure of Comic-Con is over, I can focus solely on my writing again, and I have several books in store for you, including my dystopian novel Resilient.

Hope you all have a wonderful August. Toni
